The Last Three Days…

I have so much to share I don’t know where to begin!

Friday night we packed the kids in the car and headed to PA for the weekend. My 20th high school reunion was Saturday night and we decided to make a weekend out of it.

Knowing I was going to stay out late Saturday night (and that there would be some *coughdrinking involved), I decided to rearrange my marathon training run a bit. Instead of attempting 15 miles on Sunday I decided to run next week’s 12 on Saturday morning.

Leaving from my mom’s house I figured out a 12-mile loop basically running through all the little towns I grew up in. It was amazing! 

This is me about 8 miles in on a local bridge, but it was so foggy I couldn’t take a shot of the scenery.

I felt great the entire run except the last mile when my left foot started to bother me. It’s still a little out of whack but it’s getting better.

After the run The Husband and I showered and left the kids with Grandma and Grandpa and enjoyed lunch on our own at a local pizza shop we used to eat at when we were dating.

It was so fun reminiscing and the reunion didn’t even start yet!

With a few hours left we decided to check into the hotel early and take a nap. Such a rare treat for parents, isn’t it? Just a midday nap on a Saturday afternoon.

We woke up hungry and headed to Johnny Rockets to split some bacon cheese fries and a shake just ’cause.

The reunion was a BLAST! It was honestly surreal. I remember making fun of my mom when she went to hers and here I am at mine. I’m going to say it and I don’t care how cliche it sounds … where has the time gone?!?

I still feel like a kid for Pete’s sake!

Anyway, the best part of the reunion was the people, of course. I got to spend time with one of my best buds, Jen, who happens to also be my travel partner and FitBloggin‘ helper.

I’ve known Jen since grade school. She’s just one of those people that come into your life and make it better. I love her so much.

I also got to see another of my oldest friends who I just don’t get to see enough! Back in the day I’d pick Jaime up every day for school.

We have one of those friendships that just picks up right where it left off even though we don’t see each other for years! I miss her so much but our lives just went off separate directions when I moved away from home.

There’s so many more photos but I’m not sure how everyone would appreciate me plastering them all over the blog so I’ll just end with this one of The Husband and I.

Not only did he agree to attend my 20th reunion (we didn’t go to the same high school) but he missed a Notre Dame game for it. If you know him, you know he doesn’t miss Notre Dame games for much so this was a pretty big deal.

We really had an amazing night. It was just fun to share a few drinks with old friends and spend a night out with The Husband (we had a room so we didn’t have to worry about driving home).

The next day The Husband snuck in a golf game with his dad while I hung out with my parents.

The drive home was gorgeous. There’s nothing like North Eastern PA in the fall.

In a few more weeks it will even be more beautiful.

Coming home I felt refreshed but a little worried about my foot. It was still aching from my run and marathon training is in full swing.

Once we got home and the kids were in bed I ended up passing out on the couch watching Brooklyn 99. I was exhausted!

My alarm went off at 5:25 to hit the gym and I decided to chance it because we were working on shoulders with no running or leg work.

Well, it was totally the wrong decision because I ended up tweaking my neck while warming up!

So now my foot AND my back hurts!


I was in so much pain  I decided to make an appointment with a chiropractor because this is the second time this month I’ve had problems. I’m worried the longer distances I’m running are affecting my upper spine somehow. The funny thing is my knee, which normally bothers me in distances over 8 miles hasn’t been acting up at all. I’m wondering if I changed my gait to account for that and threw something else off.

I had a good talk with the doctor and he took X-rays, which we’ll be going over tomorrow.

I’ve never felt so good and so bad at the same time.  I feel like my body is falling apart but I’m mentally motivated and excited for my long runs and workouts. I love everything I’m doing right now. I just need to be careful so my body can keep up with me.

It’s a delicate balance.

In the food department today I cooked some awesome meals! Unfortunately, I didn’t take a photo but I used some leftover butternut squash fries and pork chops to make a great fall spinach salad topped with a quick dressing made with maple syrup, apple cider vinegar and allspice. It was fall on a plate! I will have to make it again and share on GreenLiteBites.

Dinner was Pistachio and Oat Crusted Tilapia with a side of brown rice and peas, and the whole family ate it without complaint. I think they felt sorry for me because I couldn’t turn my head without wincing in pain but whatever. I’ll take it. I love when I get fish in all my boys.

After dinner I was all about the ice packs. Little Bean kept me company and we shared some chocolate.

So the weekend started out AWESOME and kind of progressively got worse but it’s all good. At first I was really mad about my neck (my foot actually feels pretty good right now) but all I can do is wait it out, right?

I’m taking tomorrow off from the gym and will be stretching and icing until I see the doc again. Hopefully he’ll be able to shed some light.
